Sort customer feedback with AI and get alerts for unhappy customers

New answers in your feedback form are tagged positive, neutral, or negative by AI. Negative ones are sent to Slack right away.

What you need

  • A Google Form linked to a Google Sheet
  • An OpenAI API key
  • Slack

Steps

  1. Link the form to a sheet

In Google Forms, open Responses and click Link to Sheets. Add two empty columns: sentiment and reason.

  2. Watch for new rows

Trigger on new rows in the responses sheet.

  3. Ask AI for the sentiment

Send the feedback text to OpenAI. Ask for JSON: {"sentiment": "positive|neutral|negative", "reason": "one short sentence"}.

  4. Save it next to the answer

Write sentiment and reason back into the row so you can filter the sheet later.

  5. Alert on negative feedback

Only if sentiment is negative, post the feedback and the reason to Slack so someone can follow up the same day.

Build it in your tool

Google Sheets > Watch new rows, OpenAI > Create a completion, Google Sheets > Update a row, filter on the next link (sentiment = negative), Slack > Create a message.

Assumption: 120 responses a month, about 20 negative, tool checks every 3 hours. Prices in USD, checked 2026-10-17 on the official pricing pages. The plan shown is the cheapest that covers this recipe alone; if you run several automations, add their usage together.

This recipe uses OpenAI. The AI usage is billed separately by OpenAI on your own API key and is not included above. See OpenAI API pricing.

Watch out for

  • AI can misread sarcasm. Read the negative ones yourself before acting.
  • Ask for consent in the form if you send feedback to an AI service.
